Doha: Qatar Museums (QM) and ExxonMobil have entered into a sponsorship agreement for Dadu, Children's Museum of Qatar. The latter has also signed as one of the Children's Museum's founding family members.

QM Chairperson H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and ExxonMobil Qatar's President and General Manager Dominic Genetti made the announcement early this week.

H E Sheikha Al Mayassa said:“Qatar Museums is proud to welcome ExxonMobil Qatar on board as one of the founding family members of Dadu, Children's Museum of Qatar. As the exclusive sponsor of Dadu's Sustainability and Valuing the Environment Gallery, ExxonMobil Qatar is supporting Qatar Museums' ethos of sustainability and environmental awareness. Once opened, the gallery will educate children and families about Qatar's natural habitat and how we can all do our part to preserve the environment.”

Genetti meanwhile said they are excited to enter into a new partnership.“The Children's Museum of Qatar will provide endless opportunities for learning and creative discovery, and we're proud to be a part of such a significant national project. We're also delighted to sponsor a space at the museum that will stir love and curiosity for nature and help children become aware of the environment and motivated to take action to preserve it. We hope it will be very busy and wish it every success in the future,” he added.

Under this partnership, ExxonMobil Qatar will become the exclusive sponsor of the museum's Sustainability and Valuing the Environment Gallery, a space that will focus on the natural environment and biodiversity. The gallery's objectives are consistent with those of ExxonMobil Qatar's values to protect Qatar's natural environment and marine life — including its iconic dugong population — and raising awareness among students and the general public of the importance of sustainability for the future of our planet.

Furthermore, the gallery ties in with ExxonMobil Qatar's commitment to educational development, particularly in science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects, towards advancing the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and its human development pillar.

QM and ExxonMobil Qatar and have a shared a vision of preserving Qatari culture and heritage that is reflected in their collaborations. In June, ExxonMobil Research Qatar and QM worked closely to bring the highly successful Seagrass Tales, Dugong Trails, an exhibition that highlighted the cultural and environmental significance of dugongs to the National Museum of Qatar. It is also the platinum sponsor of Qatar-U.S. Year of Culture 2021, an initiative of QM.

Dadu means“play” in Arabic. The word is associated with other words like Dada, or“fun,” and Dwady, which refers both to swings and to the footmarks left behind from swinging and other marks of play that children leave behind in their environments.
