Afghanistan's Federation of Football in a statement said that the national U23-Omaid- football team cannot make it to Bahrain and will miss all the Asia Cup matches.

The statement further adds that despite their efforts to dispatch the team to the event, they were unable to do it thus Afghanistan will not be participating in the matches this year.

The visit of Afghanistan's Omaid team has been cancelled by the Asian confederation of football.

As per the statement, absence of timely flights from Kabul and failure of discussions of the head and secretary-general of Afghanistan's federation of football with the Asian confederation of football, FIFA, the foreign ministry of Qatar and other relevant bodies, the visit has been cancelled.

“We had agreed with the Olympic committee of Afghanistan and Qatar to dispatch the team to Bahrain but because Afghanistan's team was missing its first match against the host team, the Asian Confederation of Football cancelled the trip.” Reads the statement.

Though Afghanistan's National Cricket Team made it to the T20 World Cup in UAE through Qatar, the country's U23 national team is the first national side that misses an event after the Taliban takeover.

Earlier, one hundred male and female football players of Afghanistan along with their families were evacuated from Kabul to resettle abroad.
