Doha: The 17th edition of Project Qatar will open at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) from October 4-7 in partnership with the Public Works Authority (Ashgal), and will feature 150 local and international exhibitors from 13 countries, organiser of the event IFP Qatar has announced at a press conference yesterday.
Dubbed as the nation's largest and most prominent construction exhibition, Project Qatar 2021 will be the first major in-person international trade exhibition and conference in Qatar since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to IFP Qatar General Manager Haidar Mshaimesh. Top 10 participating countries during the event will include Qatar, Turkey, Germany, Italy, Poland, Belgium, Iran, China, India, and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and/or Lebanon.
To date, Qatar's booming construction industry continues to attract industry professionals from across the world. Market reports estimate that the country's construction sector was valued at $42.19bn in 2020, and is expected to reach $76.98bn by 2026, at a compound annual growth rate of 10.54 percent for the period 2021-2026. Growth is expected to be driven by projects related to the Qatar National Vision 2030 and preparations for the 2022 World Cup.
Beyond the 2020 budget, the country's projects pipeline has over 1,000 planned developments worth $150bn (QR546bn) that have yet to be awarded. About $80bn (QR291bn) of this is destined for new projects in the construction sector, with planned infrastructure projects accounting for a large portion of overall investment, according to Project Qatar.
Some of these construction projects will be showcased at the upcoming four-day event. Ashgal's Director of Projects Affairs Eng. Yousef Al Emadi said:“The Public Works Authority will be participating at Project Qatar for the fifth year in a row through our dedicated booth where we will showcase the Authority's achievements in infrastructure projects and plans for the important future projects. Our strategic partnership with Project Qatar is in line with our vision to enhance communication and partnership with various private sector companies to facilitate the implementation of projects in the country. We look forward to making the event an opportunity to communicate with a wide number of consultants, contractors, and suppliers and explore areas of cooperation”.
This year's event is also supported and sponsored by several government entities such as Qatar Primary Materials Company (QPMC), Milaha and QTerminals, as well as the sponsorship of several major private sector companies such as Al Sraiya Holding Group, Al Jaber Group, and Elegancia Group among others.

Day 3 of the conference titled“Smart City Qatar” will cover the latest trends and solutions for smarter cities, including the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G and other technologies that will shape the future of construction. Siemens CEO for Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain Adrian Wood said:“Qatar is one of the leading countries in the race to build the cities of the future, and we at Siemens are excited to present our vision for smart districts and participate in Project Qatar. We focus on sustainability, innovation, and safety, and work with our customers and partners to co-create infrastructure that enhances the way people live and work, and supports Qatar's development for generations to come”.
Speaking about the German participation during the event, Trade and Investment Consultant and Government Relations Specialist at the German Industry and Commerce Office in Qatar (AHK) Kathrin Lemke said their participation underlines the importance of Qatar's dynamic construction industry and its opportunities for German companies, even after the World Cup.
Officials from Vodafone, Qatar Green Building Council, Nasser Bin Khaled (NBK) Heavy Equipment, and Gulf Crafts also addressed the press conference and spoke about their participation in the event.
Project Qatar 2021 will feature special functions and product zones, including“The New Future of Construction” Conference, the Heavy Max Showcase, the Wholesale Market, and a series of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) certified professional trainings and workshops. The multi-themed conference will also focus on green and sustainable building, smart cities, and supply chain and logistics. It will also highlight the opportunities available for foreign investors in the Qatari market, while at the same time serving as a venue for discussion on leading trends and explore the future of the Qatari market.
