UN slams use of excessive unwarranted force by Israel on Palestinians

(MENAFN) During a verbal report at the 48th session of the Human Rights Council, the UN human rights chief condemned the use of "excessive or entirely unwarranted" force by Israeli security forces on Palestinians in addition to the Palestinian Authority's "crackdowns on dissent."

Michelle Bachelet, the UN high commissioner for human rights, at the start of the session further declared that "In the Occupied Palestinian Territory, I deplore continued and increasing instances of excessive or entirely unwarranted use of force against Palestinian civilians by Israeli Security Forces."

In the current year so far, 54 Palestinians, including 12 children, were killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank -- more than double of 2020's figure, she added.

With live ammunition, more than 1,000 people were wounded. The regular resort to lethal force is clearly at odds with international standards.
