King meets U.S. Senate leaderships


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Washington, July 21 (Petra)-- His Majesty King Abdullah II concluded his meetings at the U.S. Senate, on Wednesday in Washington, with meeting the U.S. Senate Bipartisan leaderships.
His Majesty, during the meeting attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, discussed means to promote the Jordan-U.S. partnership, as well as, the latest developments in the Middle East region.
His Majesty voiced his appreciation for the U.S. support to the Kingdom over the years, namely, in the economic, development, security and defense spheres.
The meeting reviewed the COVID-19 pandemic's economic impacts on Jordan and measures that have been taken by the Kingdom to curb its consequences.
Hosting Syrian refugees amid a sharp decline in international support from donor countries were figured high during the meeting, as only 8 percent of Jordan's needs for hosting refugees have been covered this year.
Speaking about the latest developments in the Middle East region, His Majesty praised the U.S. support to the two-state solution as a way to achieve peace between Palestinians and Israelis that will lead to the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and viable Palestinian state on the 4 June 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
His Majesty warned of the outbreak of violence in the region again in the absence of progress on the ground towards re-launching the peace process, commending the U.S. decision to resume support for UNRWA.
For their part, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell praised the deep ties that bring together the United States and Jordan and the Kingdom's role in enhancing security and stability in the Middle East region.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Director of His Majesty's Office, and the Kingdom's Ambassador in Washington.
