Jordan- UNRWA health center inaugurated in Aqaba

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Aqaba, Jan. 31 (Petra)- The Saudi ambassador here, Nayef bin Bandar Al-Sudairy, and the Director of UNRWA Affairs in Jordan, Marta Lorenzo, inaugurated the new UNRWA health center in Aqaba.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the Saudi-funded center, Al-Sudairy said Aqaba's health project comes in the context of Saudi Arabia's support for the UN agency and assistance provided to Palestinian refugees to face challenges.
Several relief, health and educational projects were launched under Riyadh's support, according to the envoy.
For her part, Lorenzo expressed the agency's appreciation for the Saudi contribution to rebuilding the health center, which will serve about 10,000 Palestinian refugees in the southern governorate of Aqaba.
Stressing the importance of continued primary health services to meet the preventive and curative health needs of Palestinian refugees, especially in light of the Covid-19 pandemic, Lorenzo indicated that the center provided its services to more than 1,600 children aged between 1-5 years, and 159 pregnant women.
The services were expanded to cover family planning to include 446 Palestinian refugees, Lorenzo said, adding that about 1,000, and 350 medical, dental consultations were provided, respectively, per month.
UNRWA in Jordan provides health services to Palestinian refugees through a network of 25 health centers and four mobile clinics located in and around the Palestinian refugee camps countrywide, where more than a million refugees visit UNRWA health centers annually, according to Lorenzo.
