Moldova sees Ukraine as strategic partner - Sandu

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Moldovan President Maia Sandu has said that her task is to maintain permanent pragmatic cooperation with Ukraine, which is a strategic partner for Moldova.

Sandu said this after signing bilateral documents with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Tuesday, January 12, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

At the beginning of her speech, Sandu said in Ukrainian that she was very pleased to be in Kyiv today on her first official visit as President of the Republic of Moldova and then continued her speech in Moldovan.

"I am glad to be in Kyiv as president to restore friendship between our countries at the highest level. In recent years, the Moldovan-Ukrainian dialogue at the level of heads of state has been virtually suspended. I confirm that Ukraine is a strategic partner for the Republic of Moldova and maintaining permanent and pragmatic cooperation with Ukraine is an important task for the Republic of Moldova and for the institution of the president," Sandu said.

She said she had agreed with President Zelensky to take relations to another level of strategic partnership. In this context, she noted that today's decision to establish a Council of Presidents of Moldova and Ukraine was the first step in this direction.
