Spain posts 72.7 percent drop in May's new car sales

Data that was released by the Spanish associations of car manufacturers (Anfac), showrooms (Faconauto) and sales (Ganvam) on Monday showed that the new cars and off road vehicles sales in Spain suffered a decline of 72.7 percent in the earlier month of May in comaprison to the same month a year earlier.

The country has sold a total of 34,337 vehciles in May in comparison with 125,623 units sold in the same month a year earlier in 2019.

The decline in May followed a yearly drop of 96.5 percent reported in April as only 4,163 new vehicles were sold across the country as showrooms have been shut down as a part of the country's efforts to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Only 257,202 vehicles were sold across Spain in the starting five months of the current year, representing a drop of 54.2 percent compared to the same period a year ago.
