The Police today announced guidelines to be in place for travel from tomorrow (11 May).
An office Identification (ID) or some form of document in electronic form from a place of employment will be mandatory for anyone travelling to work from tomorrow.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Ajith Rohana said that email, WhatsApp or SMS can be used by any employee to confirm to the Police that they are on their way to a place of employment.
He said that while the curfew is in force, certain restrictions are being lifted from tomorrow to allow economic activities to resume in the Western Province.
DIG Ajith Rohana said that public sector employees using their own vehicles have been advised to travel to office before 8.30am from tomorrow while private sector employees have been advised to travel from 8.30am and 10am.
He said the appeal has been made to avoid vehicular congestion on the road, especially as the Police and military are likely to inspect vehicles at certain locations.
DIG Ajith Rohana said that in the evenings, state employees have been advised to travel home in their vehicles between 3pm and 4pm and private sector employees between 4pm and 5pm.
He also said that three-wheelers and hired vehicles can also be used to travel to work but they must operate within the quarantine regulations.
"Organisations have been informed to obtain the services of employees within the district they operate from. However, if they are unable to do so then they can tell employees living in other districts to report to work," he said.
DIG Ajith Rohana reiterated that some form of staff ID or document, be it written or electronic, must be produced to the Police to travel to work.
He said that if required the Police will contact the respective employer to confirm if the employee has been asked to report to work on the particular day.
DIG Ajith Rohana said that beauty salons, construction sites and other businesses can resume work from tomorrow by following the guidelines issued to them.
Hotels can also reopen but restaurants will not be permitted to operate as the authorities want to discourage large number of people gathering in one place. (Await more) (Colombo Gazette)
