Pakistan- Woman dies of dengue fever in Saidu Sharif Hospital

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) SWAT: A woman has died of dengue, a mosquito-borne disease, in Saidu Sharif hospital in Swat on Monday. According to a spokesperson of the Hospital, the woman from Rang Mohalla had been suffering from dengue fever for eight days.

He said that dozens of people in Swat are suffering from dengue fever, of which Rang Mohallah of Mingora, Mohalla Malokabad and Gunbad Mira are the most affected areas. According to the focal person, 150 patients were brought to the government hospital, of which 124 were discharged after treatment while 26 patients are still under treatment.

This year, the first person from dengue was killed in Faisalabad's Allied Hospital on 11th September. The 14-year-old Aryan, who died of dengue, was from Rawalpindi. Dengue killings were also claimed in Peshawar in recent days, but could not be confirmed by independent sources. The provincial government denied it and said that no deaths have been reported from any hospital in Peshawar and declared it a mere 'rumour'.

According to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department, 98 dengue cases have been reported from different parts of KP during the last 24 hours, including 55 cases from Peshawar. Besides Peshawar, nine each cases have been reported from Swat, Shangla and Battagram, six from Mansehra, five from Swabi, and four each from Mardan, Lower Dir and Buner. The total number of people affected from dengue in the province this year has reached 1,189.

However, KP government is still in denial mode as Chief Minister Mehmood Khan during a recent meeting with the health department officials had ordered action against those spreading 'rumours' about the spread of dengue in KP. However, as the situation stands now, the number of dengue patients has reached 1,189 which means that the situation is actually alarming and the KP government needs to take emergency steps to control the situation.
