Seattle, Mar 11, 2019 ( Issuewire.com )-Treehouse, which gives youth in foster care a childhood and a future, is the recipient of a $30,000 grant from Seattle Foundation, the organizations announced today.

"Seattle Foundation works to advance racial and economic equity so that all residents have the opportunity to reach their full potential. Treehouse shares our commitment to creating an inclusive community where all have access to the benefits of a thriving region," said Ceil Erickson, Director of Nonprofit Relations for Seattle Foundation. "We are happy to support their work to ensure that youth in the foster care system finish high school and develop the skills they need to be successful adults."

The grant is made possible thanks to a gift from the Janet Bates Foundation, which is housed at Seattle Foundation and provides supports to children in need to help them complete their education.

Less than 50 percent of youth in foster care in Washington and nationwide graduate from high school. Treehouse has improved graduation rates dramatically for youth in its Graduation Success program. The nonprofit's latest extended five-year rate is 82 percent.

"We're extremely fortunate to have supporters like the Seattle Foundation," said Janis Avery, CEO at Treehouse. "We could not continue to expand, tackle big goals and change the lives of increasingly more children and youth without tremendous community investment."

Treehouse's five-year goal is expanding statewide and supporting youth across Washington through a successful launch into adulthood.

With more than $1 billion in charitable assets and committed bequests, Seattle Foundation works to make Greater Seattle a stronger, more vibrant community for all and awards more than $100 million annually to nonprofit organizations.
