Allegations against Afghans being probed: FIFA

(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): FIFA, the game€™s governing body, has affirmed its commitment to promoting the safety and wellbeing of all individuals involved in football activities, especially the vulnerable people requiring attention and protection.

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association is investigating allegations that male officials from the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) sexually and physically abused players on the women's national team.

In an email to Pajhwok Afghan News, FIFA€™s media official Naoise King said the matter was currently being addressed in a €œdo no harm way€, by reputable entities with which FIFA had formed a strong working relationship on human rights-related issues in recent years.

€œThe serious subjects mentioned are being looked into by FIFA. As some aspects of the allegations involve sensitive topics linked to the protection of those involved, we have sought support from relevant parties,€™ she added.

Once, the facts were established remedial measures would be taken in case of need, she promised. €œAt this stage, however, it would neither be appropriate nor advisable to comment further.€
