Bangladesh- We'll hold road shows to promote travel to Maldives, says Ambassador Aishath


(MENAFN- Bangladesh Monitor) Dhaka : Aishath Shaan Shakir, Ambassador of the Maldives in Bangladesh, has called for more people to people contacts between Bangladesh and Maldives.

The Maldives Ambassador said this while speaking at an event to celebrate the sixth anniversary of Maldivian's operations to Bangladesh, at the office of the airline's GSA in the city on November 20.

She said not many Bangladeshis are aware about travel to her country, despite the country's national carrier operating here for six years. She hoped to persuade the tourism authority of her country to hold road shows here to attract more Bangladeshis to Maldives.

She informed that Bangladeshis can avail visa on arrival facilities at Male airport and it boasts a good number of hotels with reasonable price range.

Maldives is an ideal destination for a stretched holiday weekends, the Ambassador said.

Kazi Wahidul Alam, Editor, The Bangladesh Monitor, speaking as the special guest, thanked Maldivian airline for not only connecting the two SAARC capitals but also the medical hub of Chennai as a result of which a large number of Bangladeshi patients are able to fly non-stop to the south Indian city for taking healthcare services.

He said the airline has also created the scope to help develop tourism to the island. He urged upon the airline to promote their various products in Bangladesh.

Manzur Morshed, President, Association of Travel Agencies in Bangladesh (ATAB), thanked the airline for creating the opportunity for all the travel agents with the airline's products and urged upon them to extend various supports to the travel agencies here.

Earlier, Ahmed Yusuf Walid, Managing Director, Air Galaxy Ltd, the GSA of the airline in Bangladesh, said the airline started with three flights on November 15, 2012 and introduced its fourth frequency on November 15 this year.

The airline is operating Dhaka-Chennai-Male flights with Airbus A320-160s in two class configuration, maintaining 99.9 per cent schedule regularity and with a very satisfactory load factor.

He said the airline is also helping Bangladeshi expor-ters, export perishables to the Maldives which was not possible earlier. This also helped increase business to business contacts.

Later top productive passenger and cargo agents were recognised by presenting them certificates of appreciations. The function was rounded off by cutting a ceremonial cake by Maldive Ambassador, along with other dignitaries.
