(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Ras Al Khaimah Charity Foundation spent around Dh11 million on a variety of charity projects in the UAE and abroad in the first six months of the year.
Mohammed Jakkah Al Mansouri, secretary-general of the foundation, on Monday told Khaleej Times that they contributed Dh7.5 million to 3,824 eligible low-income families registered with them. "These are added to the charity foodstuff packages, known as ''Ramadan Meer'', which stood at Dh360,000," he said. "These were distributed to 1,700 destitute families during the holy month this year." The foundation also spent Dh2.1 million in fixed monthly allowances to 2,529 registered needy families in the first half of the year, he added. "Hundreds of free Iftar meals, worth Dh250,000, were contributed to 970 impoverished people, mainly workers, at six Ramadan tents." It has also spent Dh213,000 as medical allowances to 255 eligible patients over the same period, Al Mansouri elaborated. "We have also supported 153 students of indigent families with Dh1.33 million so that they can complete their school and university studies." Al Mansouri said the foundation has contributed Dh280,000 as sponsorship allowances for 39 orphans in Uganda for the next four years. "We also furnished houses of some young people who were given housing grants and loans by the Shaikh Zayed Housing Project." The foundation has paid part of the debts of some inmates in Ras Al Khaimah, he stated. "We have so far received up to Dh17 million contributions from philanthropists, banks and other entities here."
