House Speaker, German MPs discuss terrorism, refugees

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Lower House Speaker, Atef Tarawneh, said on Tuesday the world today stands against terrorism which has no religion, nationality or boundaries, and practices vicious crimes that are not accepted by faiths, norms or humanity.

Tarawneh made the remarks upon receiving the Parliamentary Friendship Group for Relations with Arabic-Speaking States in the Middle East in the German parliament (Bundestag).

The House speaker said, "The whole world has to make collective efforts against terrorism, wherever it exists. Terrorism is to be fought not only with weapons, but also through fighting the extremist ideology and drying up the streams that feed it." He stressed that the Palestinian issue is the just cause of Jordan and Arab and Islamic nations, and warned that if the international community did not find a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian problem based on the two-state solution, the terror, violence and instability will grow further.

Tarawneh also called upon friendly nations, especially Germany, to direct their investments to Jordan to contribute towards creating jobs for Jordanian youth, which account for 66 percent of the population. "This will ensure that the younger generation is not left vulnerable to exploitation by terrorist organizations", he explained.

The delegation said that the atrocities and terrorism, practiced by Daesh, emphasizes the importance of concerted international efforts to address and counter terrorism, expressing their condolences Jordan over the martyrdom of pilot Muath Kasasbeh.

The German lawmakers praised the role of Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, towards various issues of the region, particularly in hosting a large number of refugees, and also hailed the reforms the Kingdom had pursued in various fields.

The delegation expressed appreciation for Jordan's reformist path in spite of meagre resources and challenges posed by regional turmoil, stressing that Europe considers Jordan a fortress of security and stability in the region and should be maintained as a model.

The German delegation emphasized the depth of bilateral relations and the need for the exchange of expertise between the two parliaments, stressing that Germany has a great interest in cementing ties with Jordan, especially in economic and parliamentary fields.
