Kuwait- No work permits for Syrians

(MENAFN- Arab Times) Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Mohammad Al-Kanderi has announced that new hiring in the ministry will be referred to the Labor Sector, specifically Hawalli, Farwaniya and Capital branches, in addition to Government Contracts Department, reports Al-Qabas daily. Al-Kanderi explained that the intention to refer new appointments into those offices is due to serious shortage of staff. He said a two-shift duty system of mornings and afternoons will be implemented at those departments when the shortage of staff issue is resolved, adding that the shifts will reduce the congestion currently experienced in these offices. He pointed out that the workflow in Ahmadi and Jahra is going on in full force since those offices have sufficient staff; therefore working afternoon shifts in both these places is not required. He disclosed that the last batch of employees was assigned to the Social Welfare Department, because they have relevant specializations and there was a need for employees at the department. Meanwhile, the Assistant Undersecretary of Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Jamal Al-Dousary denied the rumor that the ministry received a directive to start issuing work permits for Syrians. He reiterated that as decided by the Minister of Interior, Syrians remain under visa ban. He clarified that the ministry does not have the prerogative to issue work permits unless approved by the Ministry of Interior.
