Macron Meets European Commission Chief To Discuss European Agenda


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) PARIS, Jan 28 (KUNA) -- French president Emmanuel Macron met Tuesday with European commission chief Ursula von der Leyen at the Elysee Palace to discuss the European agenda, reaffirming the EU's values and strengthening the defense.
According to a statement by the French presidency, the meeting will explore the European agenda, to promote a united, strong, and sovereign European Union that proclaim it value and defend its own interests.
The two sides would discuss rapid implementation of the European competitiveness agenda, especially issues of simplifying legislation, decarbonization and industrial production.
They will also address reducing strategic dependencies, fair competition, as well as public and private investment in support of climate action and digital transitions.
On the February agenda, both will discuss the European strategy on artificial intelligence (AI) with France preparing to host the AI Summit on February 10-11.
Internationally, Elysee affirmed that the meeting would also cover the upcoming informal EU leaders' meeting on February 3, focusing on European defense, especially regarding support for the European defense industrial and technological base. (end)
