Kyrgyzstan Launches Its Second Small Hydropower Plant In Single Day

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, July 22. Kyrgyzstan has
launched the second small hydropower plant (HPP) in a single day,
Trend reports.
According to official information, the Kaynama small hydropower
plant in the Toktogul district was opened by President Sadyr
Zhaparov during his working trip to the Jalal-Abad region.
In his speech, the president emphasized that the construction of
hydropower plants is a priority in addressing the country's energy
issues and called on businessmen and investors to support these
initiatives and actively participate in the implementation of
projects in this field.
Zhaparov also announced that Kyrgyzstan has allocated $9.307
million for the construction of a cascade of hydropower plants.
This amount includes contributions from Raiffeisen-Landesbank
Steiermark and the Kyrgyz-Russian Development Fund. He highlighted
that the Kaynama HPP will become one of the largest taxpayers in
the Toktogul district, making a significant contribution to the
region's economic development.
The president noted that the Kaynama HPP, with a total capacity
of 9.6 MW, will produce 39.2 million kilowatt-hours of energy
annually.
He also mentioned that agreements have been signed for similar
projects at the Orto-Tokoy and Papan reservoirs.
The construction of the Kaynama small HPP began in November
2023. In 2024, the construction of the hydropower plant with two
hydroelectric units was completed.
