Iran calls for urgent international efforts to stop Israel's genocidal campaign against Gaza

(MENAFN) Iran's acting Foreign Minister, Ali Baqeri Kani, has called for urgent international efforts to halt what he describes as Israel's genocidal campaign against Gaza. In a meeting with Dennis Francis, President of the UN General Assembly, at the UN headquarters on Monday evening, Baqeri Kani discussed various global issues and stressed the need for more effective measures to address Israel's aggressive actions in the region.

He expressed appreciation for the General Assembly's constructive initiatives since the onset of the conflict, particularly highlighting the passage of relevant resolutions. However, he urged for intensified global efforts to put an end to the Israeli regime's attacks and what he termed "genocidal crimes" against the people of Gaza.

Upon his arrival in New York, Baqeri Kani was received by Iran's Permanent Ambassador to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani. Leading a delegation, he is set to participate in an upcoming UN Security Council session focused on Palestine and multilateralism. These meetings, chaired by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, are viewed as crucial by Baqeri Kani for addressing pressing global issues and their implications for Iran.

Baqar Kani condemned the dire situation in Gaza, labeling the ongoing violence as genocide and systematic crimes against its population over the past nine months. He reaffirmed Iran's unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the country's proactive involvement in political, legal, and diplomatic arenas.

He referenced the advocacy of the late Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian at previous General Assembly and Security Council sessions, reaffirming Iran's dedication to utilizing the UN Security Council platform to defend Palestinian rights and expose Israeli atrocities.

The situation in Gaza has worsened significantly since October 7, when Palestinian resistance groups launched retaliatory operations in response to Israeli actions. Since then, Gaza has been subjected to a severe blockade that has critically restricted essential supplies, including food, medicine, electricity, and water.
