Israeli settlements witness unprecedented expansion in Palestine

(MENAFN) Despite Israeli security services' attempts to downplay the significance of recent settlement decisions, these actions mark an unprecedented expansion. This expansion is coupled with the demolition of Palestinian homes and the appropriation of their land. The measures are aimed at Judaizing occupied Jerusalem and annexing the entire West Bank, thereby extinguishing any prospects for establishing an independent Palestinian state. These developments have provoked widespread condemnation from both Palestinian and international communities.
In light of a new Zionist strategy to divide the Gaza Strip into 24 administrative areas, it seems that the occupation security forces have tried to quell regional and international anger with a statement. In this statement, they quickly asserted that the recent decisions by the Zionist cabinet hold limited practical value but carry significant international repercussions. This comes amid continuous demands from political and security sectors within the occupied entity to conclude the conflict in the Gaza Strip and avoid further regional escalation.
Mustafa Barghouti, the Secretary-General of the Palestinian National Initiative Movement, highlights the danger of these decisions. He points out that they entail the complete seizure of the Palestinian Authority's civil powers in the so-called "B" areas, transferring control to settlers led by extremist minister Bezalel Smotrich. Barghouti notes that this follows the abolition of the PA's security powers in the so-called Area A, marking the end of the remaining elements of the Oslo Agreement.
Barghouti further elaborates that these resolutions aim to recharacterize the West Bank from an occupied Palestinian territory with foreign settlement enclaves into "Zionist land." This transformation results in settlements and roads encircling Palestinian cities, villages, and camps, converting them into isolated and oppressed ghettos with no means of communication among them.
