Russia vows robust retaliation against US

(MENAFN) In a recent development, Russian Ambassador to Washington Anatoly Antonov has stated that Russia will respond firmly and appropriately to the confrontational measures being pursued by the United States. Despite these tensions, Moscow remains open to engaging in dialogue based on mutual respect and equality, reflecting the complex nature of United States-Russian relations.

At a press conference held during the embassy's Russia Day reception on Wednesday, Antonov drew attention to the significant restrictions recently imposed by the US government on Moscow. He noted the irony of the United States administration congratulating the Russian people while simultaneously announcing a new set of sanctions. These sanctions are part of a larger strategy aimed at exerting economic pressure on Russia.

Antonov stated, "The United States administration congratulated the Russian people and simultaneously announced the next package of sanctions. We will not impose ourselves as partners; however, Russia is open to honest and equal dialogue when Americans are ready for it."

Supporting Antonov's remarks, Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, affirmed that Moscow would deliver a calculated and decisive response to the aggressive actions of the United States. She emphasized that Russia would not leave these actions unanswered and would take appropriate countermeasures.

This firm stance follows the United States announcement earlier on Wednesday of new sanctions targeting the Moscow Stock Exchange and its subsidiaries. Washington claims that these measures are designed to disrupt transactions worth billions of dollars and impact entities involved in three major LNG projects. This latest round of sanctions illustrates the escalating tensions between the two countries, with both sides preparing for a prolonged period of diplomatic and economic confrontation.
