The UN congratulatesAzerbaijan's preparation for its 4th national review of theSustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Assistant Administrator,Director, Bureau for Policy and Program Services of the UNDevelopment Program (UNDP) Marcos Neto said, Trend reports.
The official made the remark at the opening of the 4th SDGDialogue, themed“Stakeholder Consultation on the 4th VoluntaryNational Review of Azerbaijan and Women's Economic Empowerment forSDG 5 Acceleration."
"Azerbaijan is one of the five countries that have preparedtheir fourth national review of the SDGs. In this regard, wecongratulate Azerbaijan," he pointed out.
According to Neto, women's participation in the economy means anadditional $12 trillion.
"The negative consequences of prohibiting women fromparticipating in the economy are incredible," the officialemphasized.
He mentioned that the UN is ready to support the enhancement ofwomen's role in Azerbaijan's economy and can develop financialprograms.
"We support Azerbaijan's national priorities and share knowledgein fields such as demining, gender equality, and climatechange.
We have established 17 women's resource centers in Azerbaijan, more than 8,000 women have undergone various courses and havebeen provided with equipment. We provide them with psychologicaland financial support," Neto said.
He stressed the need for reforms in professions that areoff-limits to women globally.
"Azerbaijan has achieved outstanding success in this area. Wewould like the country to integrate gender equality into allspheres. Azerbaijan can also benefit from Brazil's experience inthis matter," he added.
