(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, March 29. Turkmenistanand the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) discussed the currentstate and prospects for the development of traditional cooperationthat meets mutual interests, Trend reports.
According to an official source, these issues were discussedduring a meeting in Ashgabat between President of TurkmenistanSerdar Berdimuhamedov and UNWTO Secretary General ZurabPololikashvili.
"One of the key vectors of Turkmenistan's foreign policy is thedevelopment of a multifaceted strategic partnership with the UN andits specialized agencies, including the UNWTO. Turkmenistan hasbeen a member of the UNWTO since 1993, and for more than 30 yearswe have accumulated useful experience of cooperation,"Berdimuhamedov stressed.
At the same time, noting that the potential of the partnershipis not fully utilized, the head of state expressed support for theestablishment of more effective bilateral relations that meet themodern realities and opportunities of Turkmenistan.
Furthermore, he added that Turkmenistan intends to continuedeveloping sustainable tourism, the goals of which coincide withthe Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in order to achievesocio-economic progress and ensure environmental well-being.
Meanwhile, the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is aninternational institution established to promote and coordinateglobal tourism, promote sustainable and responsible tourism, andpromote economic growth, social development, and interculturalunderstanding through tourism.
The organization provides support to member countries in policyformulation, the development of standards and recommendations, aswell as research and analysis of trends in the tourism sector.
