Zelensky urges military to acquire 500 meters from Russia per day

(MENAFN) Ukrainian Leader Vladimir Zelensky has presented a formidable challenge to his military, calling for the daily acquisition of a minimum of 500 meters of territory from Russian forces. This directive comes in the wake of significant losses, with tens of thousands of casualties during their struggling counteroffensive.

“Ukraine needs results every day,” Zelensky declared in his evening video speech on Sunday. “We need to resist the Russian assaults, kill the occupiers and move forward. We must advance by at least a kilometer, at least 500 meters, every day. We must keep moving forward in order to improve the Ukrainian positions and put pressure on the occupiers.”

Zelensky emphasized that achieving such advancements is crucial not only for fortifying Ukraine but also for inspiring foreign allies to increase their military assistance, he went on to say that next week “will bring more opportunities for Ukraine.”

Zelensky's remarks come amidst a backdrop of advancing Russian forces in areas including the town of Avdeevka within the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Kupyansk, situated in Ukraine's Kharkov Region.

Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, claimed previously in October that the counteroffensive launched by Ukrainian forces in early June had resulted in over 90,000 dead, labeling it as "failed." In an interview, Kirill Budanov, the chief of military intelligence for Ukraine, acknowledged that the operation is not so much "behind schedule" as it is completely unscheduled.
