Neymar leaves Paris St. Germain for Al-Hilal Saudi club

(MENAFN) Al-Hilal, a Saudi Pro League side, has acquired Brazil forward Neymar from French champions Paris St. Germain.

It is believed that the deal for the 31-year-old former Barcelona player is worth about 90 million euros (USD98.2 million) plus extras.

"I've achieved a lot in Europe and enjoyed special times, but I have always wanted to be a global player and test myself with new challenges and opportunities in new places," he stated.

Luis Enrique did not include Neymar in his plans for the new season.

Despite joining PSG for a world-record fee of £200m (USD218.4 million) in 2017, the forward was not included in their squad for Saturday's Ligue 1 draw against Lorient.

His departure also matches PSG's plan of backing off from the 'Galacticos' era of contracting with high-profile players for large charges as well as big salaries, with Lionel Messi exit the team this summer as well.

"I want to write new sporting history, and the Saudi Pro League has tremendous energy and quality players at the moment," Neymar also said.

"I have heard a lot and learned that I am following a long list of Brazilian players who have played in Saudi Arabia over the years, so I believe it is the desired place."
