(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) today warned the Government against misusing the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR).
SJB MP Eran Wickramaratne told Parliament that his party opposes disrespecting any religion.
He asserted that anyone making such comments should tender an apology.
However, he said that when arresting anyone the Government must not misuse the ICCPR like it misused the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
“Stop arresting anyone using the ICCPR,” he said.
Comedian Nathasha Edirisooriya, the owner of the YouTube channel 'SL VLOG' Bruno Divakara and the Ven. Rajangane Saddharathana Thero were arrested and remanded till 21st June.

The Venerable Rajangane Saddharathana Thero was arrested in Anuradhapura in May for allegedly making statements that could disrupt religious harmony.
