Drive-by Shooting at California House Party Leaves 17-Year-Old Dead, Five Injured

(MENAFN) A tragic incident unfolded in Chico, California early Saturday morning, as a 17-year-old female was killed and five others wounded in a drive-by shooting that took place following a large house party. The apartment complex parking lot where the incident occurred was the site of the mass shooting, which took place at approximately 3:30 a.m. local time. Police arrived on the scene and found several victims who had been hit by gunfire, with a gunman having fired from a vehicle into a group of people in the parking lot.

According to Chico Police Lt. Terry Tupper, the shooting was not a random occurrence, although it remains unclear if any of the six victims were specifically targeted. Tupper also noted that all six victims had recently departed a house party in the apartment complex, which had been cleared by police. The injury list included 18-, 19-, 20-, and 21-year-old men, as well as a 17-year-old female. Fortunately, the surviving victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Chico Police Chief Billy Aldridge described the shooting as an "isolated incident," and stated that there is no threat to the community. It is a somber reminder of the ongoing gun violence issue that continues to plague the United States, with communities left to pick up the pieces and deal with the aftermath of such senseless acts. The tragedy in Chico serves as a stark reminder that much work remains to be done towards curbing gun violence and ensuring public safety.
