Lionel Messi to Visit Saudi Arabia as Tourism Ambassador

(MENAFN) Lionel Messi, the World Cup winning football star who currently plays for Paris Saint-Germain, is set to visit Saudi Arabia as a brand ambassador for the Saudi Tourist Board. The Kingdom’s Minister of Tourism, Ahmed al-Khateeb, announced the visit on social media, stating that messi will be returning to Saudi Arabia to enjoy the Kingdom's tourism destinations, connect with its people, and enjoy unique experiences. The footballer, who previously visited Saudi Arabia in May 2021 and attended events in Jeddah, is contracted to promote Saudi Arabia's attractions and travel reforms as a tourism ambassador for Visit Saudi.

While it is unclear when Messi will be visiting Saudi Arabia, it is expected to be during an extended break for international fixtures after PSG's league game on Sunday, March 19. However, it is unlikely that Messi will be able to watch Ronaldo play for Al Nassr as the Saudi Pro League will also be on a break at that time. Nevertheless, a collaboration between Messi and Ronaldo, who are both paid to promote Saudi tourism, cannot be ruled out.

Although Messi's visit to Saudi Arabia will not be football-related, it is a significant development for the Kingdom, which has been working hard to attract tourists and diversify its economy away from its reliance on oil. Messi's star power and global appeal could help boost Saudi Arabia's tourism industry and attract more visitors to the country.
