Mass protests in France against NATO membership, support for Ukraine

(MENAFN) On Sunday, multiple mass protests took place across France, including in Paris, against France's NATO membership and continued support of Kiev. These demonstrations, organized by the right-wing Les Patriotes party, were held for the second consecutive weekend, with party leader Florian Philippot personally attending the rally in Paris.

Philippot claimed that the event, dubbed the National March for Peace, had even more participants than the previous week's rally in Paris, which drew around 10,000 people. In addition, smaller-scale anti-NATO protests were held in about 30 other locations across France.

During the protest, the marchers carried a large banner reading "For Peace" as they marched through the streets of Paris. They called for France to withdraw from both the US-led NATO and the EU and urged a halt to the supply of weapons to Ukraine. The protesters also directed chants at French President Emmanuel Macron, with the common slogan of "Macron get out!" being used.

Following the march, Philippot and his supporters held a rally, during which he was filmed defacing NATO and European Union flags. The footage was later shared on social media by the politician himself.

The protests reflect growing discontent among some French citizens towards the country's international alliances and policies. The Les Patriotes party has long been critical of France's membership in NATO and its relationship with the European Union, advocating instead for a more nationalist and independent foreign policy.
