(MENAFN) The Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) released official figures on Monday showing that the daily electricity consumption in Turkey dropped by 11.3 percent on Sunday compared to the previous day, amounting to a total of 746,089 megawatts per hours. The data from TEIAS also revealed that the highest hourly power consumption, which peaked at 34,953 megawatt-hours, occurred at 10 p.m. regional time (1900 GMT), while the country's electricity usage dropped to its lowest level of 27,520 megawatts per hours at 8 a.m. regional time (0500 GMT) on the same day.
In addition, the TEIAS report indicated that electricity production on Sunday totaled 729,509 megawatts per hours, which represented a decrease of 11.5 percent compared to the previous day. The report further showed that electricity production from imported coal plants accounted for 25 percent of the total generation, while wind plants and lignite contributed 18.7 percent and 14.4 percent, correspondingly.
Moreover, on Sunday, Turkey's electricity exports amounted to 9,993 megawatts per hours, while the country's electricity imports totaled 26,573 megawatts per hours. These figures suggest that Turkey is currently reliant on imports to meet its electricity demands.
