Arab condemnations and condolences to Azerbaijan after targeting its embassy in Iran


(MENAFN- Hip Hop-24) On Friday, several Arab countries condemned the attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran, and offered their condolences for the incident.

On Friday morning, the Azerbaijani embassy in the Iranian capital, Tehran, was subjected to an armed attack, killing the embassy's security official and wounding two guards.

Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Egypt and Jordan condemned the attack in separate official statements, offering their condolences to Azerbaijan.

In a statement, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed its firm position rejecting violence, terrorism and criminal acts, regardless of the motives and reasons.

In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed "the Kingdom's solidarity with Azerbaijan in this calamity," calling for "respecting the sanctity of diplomatic missions and punishing the perpetrators."

While the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed in a statement the "duty to protect diplomatic buildings in accordance with the customs and charters that govern and regulate diplomatic work."

In Kuwait, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed, in a statement, its country's "principled and firm position against violence and terrorism," affirming that it "stands by Azerbaijan in this calamity."

As for Egypt, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zaid said on his Twitter account: "We affirm Egypt's full solidarity with Azerbaijan in this painful incident."

The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also affirmed the Kingdom's "sympathy" with the government and people of Azerbaijan, and its rejection of "all forms of violence, especially those targeting the headquarters of diplomatic missions and their workers."

At the level of organizations, the Gulf Cooperation Council expressed, in a statement, "solidarity with Azerbaijan and its people in this calamity," calling for "the need to protect diplomatic facilities according to customs and charters."

Earlier Friday, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Iran to "ensure the security of its embassy and the safety of its employees," noting that "the recent campaign against Baku in Iran encouraged such attacks against the diplomatic mission."

The Foreign Ministry revealed the existence of "previous attempts" that threatened the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission in Tehran.

While Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov described the attack as a "treacherous terrorist," stressing that the perpetrators and those who ordered it "must be punished in the shortest possible time."

On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said that his country's authorities had "ordered an investigation" into the incident.

However, he added: "The results of preliminary investigations show that there are personal motives" behind the attack.

For his part, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian condemned the attack, during a phone call with Bayramov, calling for the incident not to "negatively" affect relations between the two countries, according to a statement from his ministry.
