Israel bombs airport in Damascus
(MENAFN) Based on the Syrian Defense Ministry, an Israeli missile assault early on Monday forced the airport to stop operating after two troops were killed and the facilities were damaged.
According to a statement on facebook by the ministry, Israeli jets attacked the airstrip and nearby regions at approximately 2:00 am regional time.
The Sea of Galilee, commonly known as Lake Tiberias, is situated in Israeli territory about 100 kilometers (km) southwest of the capital of Syria.
According to the post, “the aggression left two military personnel killed and two others wounded, causing material damage and putting the airport out of service.”
In keeping with their long-standing policy of keeping information about operations outside of Israel private, the Israel Defense Forces have not verified the strike.
Since the start of the civil conflict in 2011, Israel has launched many attacks on Syrian territory with the intention of hitting Iranian assets. Teheran is assisting Damascus in its battle with terrorist organizations, along with Moscow.
Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that there had been "hundreds" of similar strikes throughout the years during his previous term as Israeli prime minister.
