China seeks to buy more gas from Russia

(MENAFN) Russian gas export to China through the so-called eastern way, the Power of Siberia pipeline, should be steadily soared, as said by Huang Yongzhang, Vice President of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC).

The 3,000 kilometer (1,864 mile) cross-border pipeline started supplies of Russian natural gas to China in 2019. Its size is 61 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas on an annual basis, as well as 38 bcm for export. In 2021, Russian gas deliveries to China rose by 10.4 bcm through the extra-large pipeline.

“It is necessary to steadily increase gas supplies from Russia to China via the eastern route. The parties continue cooperation in this area, using all its advantages, strengthening and deepening business cooperation,” Yongzhang announced on Tuesday at the Russia-China Energy Business Forum.

He also urged for the strengthening of the scientific and technical collaboration between the two countries in order to develop the quality of mutual work in the oil and gas sector, in addition to in the field of green and low-carbon energy.
