Thai Airasia Inaugurates Dhaka-Bangkok Flight

The low cost budget carrier Thai AirAsia, a subsidiary of Malaysia-based AirAsia Aviation Group, has launched the Dhaka-Bangkok flight.

Thai AirAsia's inaugural flight launching ceremony was held at
Dhaka Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel Saturday (26 Nov). Md Mahbub Ali, state minister for civil aviation and tourism, was present as chief guest at the event.

Announcing its formal launching by cutting a cake State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali
hoped that passengers will be benefited through Air Asias's entry in the aviation sector with a fair competition among the airlines.

He said,“ I believe this airline will establish positive competition and cooperation, which will be helpful for passengers,” said Mahbub Ali.

He hoped that Air Asia would operate their flights by maintaining service quality and safety.

Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, Thai Ambassador to Bangladesh Makawadee Sumitmor, Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Haznah Md Hashim, and Thai Air Asia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Santisuk Klongchalya were also present as special guests.

Thai Air Asia GSA, TAS Aviation Chairman KM Mozibul Hoque, Vice-Chairman and CEO Sheikh Mamunul Hoque, Managing Director Morsedul Alam Chaklader; directors Kazi Shah Muzakker Ahmadul Hoque, Md Atiqur Rahman Masud, Anwar Abedin Manik and other members of the company also joined the event.

After dinner, a raffle draw and an award giving ceremony among top 10 agents of AirAsia was also held at the same venue.

The inaugural flight from Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport landed at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday (25 Nov) .

The airline will operate four weekly flights between Dhaka and Don Mueang. However, considering the passengers' pressure, the airline plans to operate flights from Sylhet and Chittagong to Bangkok's Suvarna Airport in future.


A passenger can carry luggage weighing a maximum of 20 kilogram. However, if the weight is more than that, the charge will be applicable.

Minimum fare will start from Tk 22,000. However, this fare will depend on which class of ticket the passenger buys.

AirAsia, which was voted the world's best low-cost airline for 13 years in a row in Skytrax awards, has been operating 14 weekly flights between Dhaka and Kuala Lumpur since 2015. With the addition of the Thai AirAsia flight, the group has added a new route for Bangladeshi travellers to avail AirAsia's affordable and lucrative fares in line with their vision 'Now Everybody Can Fly'.
