Passenger plane crash in Tanzania leaves over 19 deaths

(MENAFN) A passenger plane crash in Tanzania killed more than 19 people, the nation’s Premier Kassim Majaliwa stated on Sunday. The Precision Air flight from Dar es Salaam crashed into Lake Victoria en route to Bukoba Airport, lodging mainly flooded in the water.

Up to now, 26 people have been saved from the water, as said by Albert Chalamila, the governor of Kagera Region, where the crash took place, without knowing how many passed away in hospital.

The plane, which departed from the nation’s capital, Dar es Salaam, crashed into Lake Victoria in the morning amid “storm and heavy rains,” in line with Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC).

The plane “encountered problems and bad weather” at an altitude of only 100 meters (328 feet), Kagera police commander William Mwampaghale informed journalists. “It was raining and the plane plunged into the water.”

“We have managed to save quite a number of people,” the chief added, noting that rescue efforts were continuing. There were 39 travelers and four crew aboard the plane.
