Polish president declares his nuclear ambitions

(MENAFN) President Andrzej Duda stated that Warsaw has held negotiations with Washington regarding placing US nuclear weapons on Polish soil in response to what it perceives as a rising threat from Russia.

“The problem, first of all, is that we don’t possess nuclear weapons,” Duda stated in an interview with Gazeta Polska on Wednesday. “There’s no indication that in the near future we as Poland would have it at our disposal,” he noted.

The president urged that Warsaw join Washington's "nuclear sharing" program as a solution.
He also claimed, “We have spoken to the American leaders about whether the US is considering such a possibility. The issue remains open.”

According to The Guardian, a US official stated that the White House was "not aware of this concern being addressed."

As part of the nuclear sharing program, the United States now has nuclear weapons stationed in Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Turkey. The five NATO nations just host the nukes, which are still owned by Washington.

Duda was also questioned about Russia's supposed nuclear threat.

“If [the Russians] start a nuclear war, there will be no future for them. Even if they survive, they will be cursed all over the world. They realize that it will be crossing the line, beyond which there is nothing left,” the president alleged.
