Iranian police station attack leaves 19 people dead

(MENAFN) According to state television, 19 individuals were slain on Friday at a police station in Zahedan, southeast Iran, including many members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The attack also injured at least 32 IRGC troops, including Basij volunteer forces members.

Based on the IRNA news agency, those murdered at the location were IRGC Colonel Hamidreza Hashimi, IRGC soldier Mohammad Amin Azarshokr, and Basij troops Mohamad Amin Arefi and Saeed Borhan Rigi. Seyyed Ali Mousavi, the head of intelligence, was allegedly shot during the incident and eventually passed away from his wounds.

Before opening fire, the shooters allegedly concealed among the worshippers in a mosque next to the station, according to IRNA. Several police stations in Zahedan were reportedly taken over by Baluchi "protesters" on Friday, while official media sources do not identify the separatist organization responsible for the tragic assault. According to the Tasnim news agency, on Friday, Iranian security forces prevented yet another "terrorist" assault on a police station in Zahedan.
