More than 100,000 firms in Italy are in risk of closing down

(MENAFN) Over 100,000 companies in Italy are in risk of shutting as a result of high energy bills, the news agency Corriere della Sera made an announcement on Saturday, mentioning Carlo Sangalli, chief of the Italian business association Confcommercio.

“Already today many companies are reorganizing or reducing services… Between now and the first half of 2023, at least 120,000 small businesses in the service sector are at risk… This is a cautious estimate that does not take into account the largest companies,” Sangalli updated the news agency.

As said by the official, the situation might cause the loss of at least 370,000 jobs. Sangalli also stated that energy costs in Italy are much higher than in other nations, which stresses small and medium-sized companies.

“In terms of energy costs, our hotels, bars, restaurants and stores will pay 40-60 percent more on their bills this year than in Germany, and three times that than in France,” Sangalli went on to claim.
