The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), in co-operation with Hamad International Airport (HIA), is organising a series of training courses for HIA employees, covering three different areas namely security, Customs and administration.
The courses, which started on Sunday and continue until August 11, aim to enhance the skills of HIA employees, raising their capabilities and readiness to deal optimally with the fans of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, who are coming via HIA.
Moreover, the courses target HIA security staff, airport Customs officials and HIA administrators.
They also focus on interpersonal skills, such as empathy, attentive listening, monitoring, teamwork, and communication skills.
Furthermore, NHRC said that the courses come within the framework of consolidating human rights principles through good governance, since the training includes a human rights-based approach to border management, including the relevant legal and political framework, prioritising human rights in border control procedures, screening and interviewing, as well as identification and referral.
In addition, the committee revealed that the training will address the Global Compact for Safe; Orderly and Regular Migration; its vision and guiding principles, and border management in an integrated; safe and co-ordinated manner.
Moreover, NHRC said that the training will also include an explanation of World Cup 2022 hosting measures, immigration laws and their amendments, Customs-related laws, and laws related to human rights.
As part of putting the theoretical aspects into practice, the committee noted that the training will include engaging with local legal experts to familiarise trainees with the Qatari legal framework for human rights and border management, as well as getting them acquainted with the tasks of NHRC, in addition to practical fieldwork training, and preparing them to cater to the specific needs of the expected visitors.
These training programs are expected to contribute to achieving Qatar's vision in the domain of human rights protection; ensuring that the rights of fans, workers and organisers of the World Cup and its side events are upheld, maintaining all requirements for their safety and security, as well as maintaining human rights related and sport related standards.
HIA hosted the NHRC exhibition on Human Rights in Islamic Culture, on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day 2019, in addition to a basic human rights exhibition, on the occasion of Doha, Capital of Culture in the Islamic World 2021.
Additionally, training courses were also held for senior airport staff to mark Qatar Human Rights Day 2021.
