Ministry Of Labour Holds Workshop On Occupational Health And Safety

Doha: In cooperation with the International Labour Organization and Doha University of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Labour organised a training workshop aiming to qualify the ministry's inspectors for 'The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety'.

The training course came within the framework of continuous and joint efforts with ILO, to enhance the safety and health of workers in the workplace, and the proficiency of inspectors as well as their ability to identify and mitigate risks in the work environment.

The two-week training course was attended by about 18 male and female inspectors from the Ministry of Labour, during which they were trained on many skills and requirements that must be implemented during their work while inspecting work sites and labour accommodations.

The training course tackled the duties of managing health and safety in the workplace, how health and safety management systems work and how to put them in place, risk management, understanding people and processes, how to monitor and measure health and safety, and the risk assessment mechanism. 

The trainees will undergo an international test to obtain the International Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health“NEBOSH”, which is one of the important training courses for inspectors of the Labour Inspection Department.

The Labour Inspection Department implements Labour legislation and conducts periodic and without prior warning inspections of work sites and places of residence, in addition to educating the public about Labour legislation, controlling violations, issuing warnings, and ensuring that establishments take preventive measures in the field of occupational health and safety.

The Labour Inspection Department is divided into three sections, the Wages Protection Section (WPS), the Labour Inspection Section, and the Occupational Safety and Health Standards Section.
