Harnessing the spiritual insight and mindfulness of Ramadan into serving humanity will be the focus of a special edition of Qatar Foundation's Education City Speaker Series next week, as the platform for dialogue welcomes a leading thinker and researcher on the Muslim world. Dalia Mogahed, director of research at the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding (ISPU) which conducts research into the challenges and opportunities facing American Muslims – is the guest speaker for the online event on April 18, from 9-10pm, titled Ramadan: Channelling Spiritual energy into Social Justice.
The talk will explore how the holy month can be more than a spiritual exercise, providing people with the tools and the mindset to overcome social challenges, and invigorating our efforts to help others through the reflection that it allows. It will be moderated by Sulaiman Bah, community engagement and outreach coordinator at Minaretein, with the online audience having the opportunity to put their questions to Mogahed following the discussion.
In her role at ISPU, Mogahed – who is also the CEO of Mogahed Consulting – has led pioneering research and thought leadership programmes concerning American Muslims. During her time as executive director of the Gallup Centre for Muslim Studies, she steered analysis of surveys of Muslim communities throughout the world, while in 2009 she was appointed to the President's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighbourhood Partnerships by President Barack Obama.
The Education City Speaker Series hosts experts and thought-leaders from Qatar, the region, and around the world to discuss global trends and topics. In 2021, more than 105,000 people worldwide viewed online editions of the Education City Speaker Series.
