Sri Lanka - Government insists no threat to food security

The government today insisted that there was no threat to food security despite the economic crisis facing Sri Lanka.

Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage told Parliament today that Sri Lanka has sufficient stocks of rice and vegetables.

He was responding to concerns raised by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa.

Premadasa said that the public are unable to purchase food supplies.

Aluthgamage said that steps will be taken to ensure the public can afford food stocks.

The Minister insisted that the Government will ensure there is no shortage of food supplies to the public. (Colombo Gazette)
