São Paulo – Razin Camel Beauty Pageant, a camel beauty contest, will begin this Thursday (25) as part of the 15th Al Dhafrah Festival in Al Wathba, Abu Dhabi. The competition will feature 75 races with camels from across the Arabian Peninsula, according to local media.

The contest will run until December 2, when the 50th anniversary of the independence of the United Arab Emirates will be celebrated, making part of the commemorations.

The competition will include purebred camels from the Asayel and Majahim lineages, divided into six age groups. Camel owners will compete for prizes worth AED 11.4 million, about USD 3.1 million at the current rate.

The contest is organized by the Heritage Festivals and Cultural Programs Committee. According to the cultural vice president of the Committee, Eissa Saif Al Mazrouei, all preparations to receive the camel caravans have been completed. Precautionary measures were taken because of COVID-19 to receive local and foreign visitors.

According to information reported in local media, the contest reflects Abu Dhabi's status as a regional and global camel beauty pageant destination. The festival reinforces Abu Dhabi's mission to preserve the culture, tradition, and history of the UAE.
