KABUL (Pajhwok): A number politicians have dismissed as untrue the creation of a“National Resistance Council” in Turkey as being circulated in social media, particularly Facebook.
Claim:
A number of social media users have been posting about the formation of the National Resistance Council in Turkey since Tuesday.
The social media users say that Abdul RabRasulSayyaf, leader of Dawat-i-Islami Party, SalahuddinRabbani, leader of the Jamiat-e-Islami party, Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, leader of Junbish-i-Islami party, KarimKhalili, leader of Hizb-i-Wahdat party, and Atta Mohammad Noor and YounusQanuni, members of Jamiat-i-Islami party, are members of the new council.
A statement attributed to the council stated that after the collapse of the republic, a group of politicians had decided to liberate the country and people from the current 'humiliating' situation, and declared creation of “High Council of Resistance” to change the situation.
The statement said that if political efforts of the council did not lead to peace, the council will take military action.
Fact-finding:
Abdul RaufAzizi, deputy head of Junbish-i-Islami Afghanistan party, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he was unaware about such a declaration.
“As one of the party’s key members, I am not aware of such an issue as yet,” he said, noting that social media was a place where anything could go viral. He says no member of the party was aware about the issue.
Meanwhile, Mohammad KarimKhalili wrote on his Facebook page that the statement was just a rumor.
Khalili said, “I consider the content of the declaration on the establishment of such a council as untrue, neither me nor Hizb-i-WahdatIslami had declared the statement and neither were we involved in it.”
“It is obvious that in the difficult situation and crisis that the country and the nation is suffering from, there is need for unity and a strong intention among political groups to rescue the country from this hard moment”, he said.
He stated that they were in contact with all political groups and trying to take the country out of the current crisis in a good way and open doors of hopes for the future of Afghanistan.
At the same time, SalahuddinRabbani also rejected his membership in the mentioned council.
He wrote on his Facebook page that what was published in the name of the statement of the National Council of Resistance had no relations with the Jamiat-i-Islami party.
He stated that the party with serious emphasis on its value-oriented views would not join any front whose principles, goals and structure were in conflict with the values of this party or there is no agreement on the above issues.
However, Professor Abdul RabRasoulSayyaf, Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, YounesQanuni and Atta Mohammad Noor did not comment on the formation and their membership of the council.
Conclusion: The topic circulating in social media that a council called the “Supreme Council of National Resistance” is rejected by KarimKhalili as rumor. SalahuddinRabbani also rejected the issue and said that they had no relation with such a council.
Verdict: The formation of the National Resistance Council by politicians in Turkey is a rumor.
