Uzbekistan’s, Taliban officials conduct discussions on economic matters, frontier security


(MENAFN) On Saturday, Oct. 16 Uzbek officials and a Taliban commission from Afghanistan conducted discussions on a string of matters, comprising economic relations and frontier security, in the Uzbek frontier city of Termez.

The Uzbek foreign Ministry noted in a report that both sides "discussed issues of trade and economic interaction, border security, cooperation in the energy sector, international cargo transportation and transit."

The Uzbek commission was headed by Sardor Umurzakov, the administration's deputy prime Minister and minister of investments and foreign trade, whereas the Taliban commission was headed by acting Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Salam Hanafi.

Termez is the Uzbek southernmost city and found at the frontier with Afghanistan.
