Qatar University opens country's first dental simulation lab


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Qatar University (QU)'s College of dental medicine inaugurated its newly-established Dental Simulation Laboratory. 

QU President Dr. Hassan Rashid Al Derham; Vice President for health and Medical Sciences Dr. Asma Al Thani; Vice-President for Administration and financial Affairs Dr. Khaled Al Khater; Vice-President for Academic Affairs Office Dr.Omar Al Ansari; and the Dean of the College of Dentistry Dr. Mandeep Dougal, alongside several faculty members, toured the newly established College of Dental Medicine, including the modern pre-clinical laboratory. 

The lab will spread awareness of the college and its facilities and laboratories, show students the university's support, and ensure higher education Quality is served by high standard facilities. 

The lab aims to educate male and female students about the basics of clinical dentistry before they practice clinical practice on actual patients. 

This will also facilitate their smooth transition from theoretical learning to clinical application by practicing and improving their own techniques within the safety and security standards of the lab, where dental students will have the opportunity to practice their dental skills using simulations and equipment they will use in real life when they treat patients. The lab provides a highly technologically advanced digital environment so that they can be trained in digital dentistry, the future of dental health care. 

Dr. Duggal said,“Three years ago, dental education was a dream, and today it has become a reality in the State of Qatar. The College of Dentistry will provide the country's future-ready dental practitioners to meet the oral health needs of the population.”

It is noteworthy that the College of Dentistry is the first national college of dentistry in Qatar. 

The number of first-year students stands at 70, 62 percent of whom are Qatari. Half of the 22 students in the second year are Qatari nationals, while there are 15 students in the third year, 53 percent of whom are Qataris. 

The curriculum is based on a 6-year horizontal and vertically integrated programme including field training where planning accreditation follows - Scheme accreditation from the Australian Dental Council upon graduation of the first batch.
