ICC marks International Nurses Day 2021


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Recognising the importance of Nurses along with health and safety, Indian Cultural Centre (ICC), Qatar organised a virtual event to mark International Nurses Day 2021, which falls on May 12.

Nursing is a profession with high standards and a strong sense of public service. A very noble profession that adds care & value to every citizen around the world. 

This special day commemorates the birth of nurse & social reformer Florence Nightingale and is celebrated around the world every year. Theme for International Nurse Day 2021 is ‘A Voice to Lead-A Vision for Future Healthcare.

Pandemic showed the importance of healthcare & investments in healthcare. In addition, it proved that if healthcare were not robust, all other sectors would suffer.  Chief guest Ambassador of India to Qatar H E Dr. Deepak Mittal, addressed this auspicious event. 

He appreciated nurses for their relentless dedication not just during pandemic but also making themselves available in forefront since generations. 

The ambassador also acknowledged the support extensively rendered by Qatar Ministry of Public Health during this pandemic towards citizens of Qatar. To mark the support & significance of the day that also provides gratitude towards Nurses, despite the magnitude of the situation, Dr. Mohan Thomas, President of ISC said in his keynote speech.

Guest of Honor, Mariam Nooh Al Mutawa, Acting Deputy Chief Nursing Officer at HMC also supported the event and appreciated the Indian nurses in Qatar for their solidarity towards the healthcare industry as a team.

She concluded her statement by saying ‘Save one life you are hero; save 100 lives you are nurse’. Event starts with a warm welcome note by Sudhir R. Gupta –Joint Secretary of ICC. P N Baburaj ICC President presided the meeting by sharing his views and supported frontline heroes of the healthcare sector as they continue to provide selfless care specially during this pandemic.

Azim Abbas, President of IBPC and Dr. Joel J. Mathew, President of Indian Doctors Club addressed the occasion & supported the event. 

Nursing associations like Federation of Indian Nurses, Qatar (FINQ) and United Nurses of India, Qatar (UNIQ) also contributed wholeheartedly towards the success of this event. Bijoy Chacko, President of FINQ and Mini Siby, President of UNIQ shared their gratitude towards nurses and supported this event.

Event concluded with vote of thanks by Anish George Mathew Managing Committee member of ICC. Elizabeth Varghese anchored the event. Event added cultural programs, short films, video presentations, highlighting the skills and talent of the healthcare professionals and support from their family.
