Lebanon arrests 19 people in port blast


(MENAFN) Local media revealed that authorities in Lebanon imprisoned 19 suspects on Friday, August 7, after a huge blast earlier this week at the Port of Beirut that has taken the lives of at least 154 people and approximately 5,000 incapacitated.

State-run National News Agency reported that the General Manager Beirut Port Hassan Koraytem; Lebanese Customs General Manager Bedri Zahir and previous Customs General Manager Shefik Mari were between those imprisoned as part of an investigation into the explosion on Tuesday, August 4.

The agency revealed that authorities imprisoned 16 workers.
A fire at a granary at the port led to an enormous explosion producing huge property destruction in numerous areas in the capital.
