Jordan- Aqaba receives first domestic flights as nationwide lockdown eased


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Aqaba, June 18 (Petra)-Jordan on Thursday has resumed domestic flight operations as the government eased the nationwide-lockdown imposed to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The first two domestic flights, which landed at King Hussein International Airport (KHIA) in the port city of Aqaba on Thursday, departed from Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA), with more than 350 visitors onboard private airlines.
In a press statement, Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA), Nayef Bakhit, said Aqaba hotels of are witnessing an "increasing" number of tourists, according to health precautions in line with international standards in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.
For his part, the ASEZA's Tourism Commissioner, Sharhabeel Madi, said the first flight belongs to two local airlines: "Fly Jordan", and "Jordan Aviation," which "reflects the recovery of domestic tourism."
On the KHIA's preparedness level, its Director, Nasser Majali, said the airport is ready to receive various domestic tourist flights according to public health and safety procedures.
