Afghanistan- US, Brazil & Russia worst-hit by coronavirus


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL wok): The United States, Brazil and Russia are among the countries worst-affected by the novel coronavirus, fresh data from John Hopkins University suggests.

After emerging in Wuhan city of China last December, the COVID-19 virus has spread to at least 200 countries and regions.

In the first months, mostly Chinese citizens were infected and killed by the disease, which has now been controlled in China. But the pandemic is spreading rapidly in Europe and America.

Statistics from the US-based John Hopkins University indicate more than 6.27 million people worldwide are infected with the coronavirus as of Monday.

At least 3.74 million people have died from the pandemic and 2.85 million have recovered worldwide -- most of them in Europe and America.

The US has suffered the most, with 1.83 million infections and 106,000 deaths. In Brazil, more than 515,000 individuals have been infected.

As many as 405,000 infections have been recorded in Russia. Brazil has seen 29,000 deaths, with Russia recording 460,000 fatalities.

Hispania, Britain, Italy, India, France, Germany have also been affected a great deal by the Covid-19 pandemic, which is worsening in Pakistan .

In Afghanistan , the coronavirus is spreading rapidly. So far, 15,500 people have been infected and 260 have died. Another 1320 Afghans have recovered from the disease to date.
